Welcome to the Bayou Big Band!

Bayou Big Band is a traditional jazz band based in Baytown, Texas.  The band was formed in 1995 as a reading band by Dennis Eichler, Director of Bands for Lee College.  Bayou Big Band consists of musicians from around the greater Baytown/Houston area.  The band has performed at a number of community functions and events.  In 1999 and again in 2001, the band conducted successful tours of Mexico, performing in Cancun, the University of Merida in Merida, Mexico, and the Reef Club in Telchak, Mexico.  The band's continued goals include:

• To provide a rewarding, musical outlet for the band's members,
• To promote Jazz locally as well as internationally, and
• To educate communities of the importance of America's only original musical art form.

The band has featured great jazz musicians from the Houston area.  Drummer Rick Porter, Saxophonist Woody Witt, Larry Slezak and blues legend Calvin Owens have been featured soloists with the band.  They have shared the stage with legendary jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.
